WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PET/CT?:

The PET/CT scanner integrates PET & CT technologies into a single device, making it possible to collect both anatomical & biological information during a single examination, resulting in a more comprehensive diagnosis.

CANCER DIAGNOSIS, STAGING AND MONITORING:

In cancer diagnosis, the highly sensitive PET scan picks up the metabolic signal of actively growing cancer cells, while the CT provides a detailed anatomic picture of the precise size & shape of tumor. When the results of the scans are fused together, they provide more complete infor-mation than either test alone.

BENEFITS:

Detection/staging/response to treatment/& recurrence of cancer. ÍPET/CT results may assist in avoiding an invasive diagnostic procedure, in determining the optimal location to perform a biopsy, & in making the earliest diagnosis of new cancers.

ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE:

PET has long been known to be the best& the most specific imaging exam for Alzheimers. The pattern of disease is
reliably seen very early in its course,when other imaging exams are normal.
